Aria Sky Suites

Las Vegas, NV

The Hotel

A hotel-within-a hotel located at the Aria in the heart of the Las Vegas strip. Aria Sky Suites offer an extra level of luxury regarding rooms and service.

The Room

The rooms are modern and clean with enough USB ports and sockets to plug in whatever you need. There’s 1 and ½ baths and the ensuite bath contains a Toto bidet which has a heated seat (the heated toilet seat was my favorite amenity).

The  VVagal  Experience

I wanted to stay at this hotel for a while, but with my experience staying in a basic room at the Aria, I was skeptical it was going to be worth the splurge. I’ve heard several people complain about the long check in line that usually awaits them upon arrival in addition to your room not being ready at check-in time. We arrived about 5pm and there was not a single person in line. Check-in was quick and when we arrived to our room we had no complaints.

I heard at one time, a stay at the Sky Suites came with complimentary transportation from the airport. Sadly, with my welcome email I was informed that I could request transportation from the airport at an affiliate rate. This wasn’t a big deal for me because I drive myself from the airport, but starting at $600.00 per night I wish the company had chosen another way to cut costs.

We can't forget about the complimentary access to the lobby lounge, were you'll find soft drinks, water (including Pellegrino), a tea and coffee machine.  I loved this perk because my wife has to hydrate like a mermaid.  Based on Vegas resort prices, we spend approximately $40-$50 per trip.  But staying in a Sky Suite, we get all the water and soda we can drink until 10 p.m.  There are also hors d'oeuvres, which are nothing to write home about.  But they are a nice touch at this price point.

A couple of side notes.  First, it didn't feel exclusive staying here, because no one was checking to make sure you are a Sky Suite guest before you enter the lobby lounge.  Someone asked to see my room key once during our 4 night stay while entering the Sky Suites area.  And to be honest, I think it was for reasons other than security purposes.  It felt like anyone could enter the lobby lounge and partake in the freebies paid for by Sky Suite guests.

Second, I've started doing the ice test when i'm staying at a luxury hotel.  On night one, the first person that comes to my room I ask them where the ice machine is.  At an average hotel, the employee will tell you where the ice machine is.  At an extrordinary hotel, they get the ice for you.  I've done this on a couple occasions at the Aria and each time (including this visit) the employee simply tells me where the ice machine is.

Was it worth the splurge?  This was a tough one because one thing I don't like about Vegas is having to cram on a crowded elevator everytime you need to go your room.  As a Sky Suites guest, you get a seperate bank of elevators that are a lot less crowded.  At the same time in a room that could easily be over a thousand dollars a night, I shouldn't have to get my own ice if I don't want to.  With that being said, I think I'll pass, I can get private elevators at the Four Seasons for a less expensive rate.
